Mayo's record-breaking All Star Keith Higgins has stressed that he regards 2014 as a failure.

The dual star last weekend became the first Mayo man to win three All Stars but, overall, he is downbeat as he looks back on the events of the season gone by:

"I wouldn't have been overly impressed with my form," the Ballyhaunis man told The Mayo News. "I felt that I didn't play as well as last year.

"I'd have to say that, overall, I'd regard the season with Mayo as a failure.

"Winning four Connacht championships in a row is great, but ultimately coming up short in an All-Ireland semi-final would mean the year has to be seen as a failure from our point of view.

"There's still major disappointment there but no point really in over-analysing it, dwelling on it or getting bogged down by it. It didn't work out, you have to move on."
