Replay won't be moved

Mayo's request to have their All-Ireland SFC semi-final replay against Kerry put back by a week has apparently fallen on deaf ears.

The Connacht champions called for the rematch to be deferred to Saturday week, September 6 - the day before the All-Ireland SHC final - after it was fixed for the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick next Saturday evening. Croke Park is unavailable on the same date as it is already committed to hosting an American football college match between University of Central Florida and Penn State.

But a report on RTE's Nine O'Clock News tonight claimed that the GAA has rejected Mayo's request, meaning the replay will go ahead next Saturday in the Gaelic Grounds as planned. It's believed that the GAA is keen to keep September 6 free in case next Sunday's second semi-final between Dublin and Donegal also goes to a replay.

Mayo made it clear after today's thrilling draw that they wanted the replay played in Croke Park and not in the Gaelic Grounds, which is considerably closer to Kerry and is a venue the Kingdom are much more familiar with.

Incidentally, it will be the first All-Ireland SFC semi-final replay to be played outside GAA headquarters since Dublin hammered Cork in Pairc Ui Chaoimh in 1983.
