Mayo are to appeal Lee Keegan's sending off against Kerry in a bid to have him available for next Saturday's All-Ireland SFC semi-final replay at the Gaelic Grounds.

The Westport clubman - who is a contender for Footballer of the Year - was issued with a straight red card by referee David Coldrick for aiming a kick in the direction of Johnny Buckley as the Kerry midfielder attempted to dispossess him two minutes before half-time. Manager James Horan confirmed after the game that an appeal will be lodged.

Mayo may well attempt have the red card downgraded to a yellow, which would make Keegan eligible for the replay.

Many Mayo fans are unhappy with Kerry's Donnchadh Walsh who they believe had a role to play in the sending off by 're-enacting' the incident to the referee.
