Boylan set to swap codes after impressive Mayo showing

Cork City's Gary Boylan

Former Sligo Rovers and Cork City soccer ace Gary Boylan has revealed his ambition to play for the Mayo footballers next season after starring in last night's win over the TG4 Underdogs at Elvery's MacHale Park.

The Belmullet man scored 1-5 in a man of the match performance as an experimental Mayo side cruised to a 3-11 to 0-8 victory over the inter-county wannabes in a game which was televised live on TG4. It was Boylan's first time to wear the green and red jersey since he posted 0-4 in Mayo's All-Ireland MFC semi-final defeat to Kerry in 2014.

"The last time I played Gaelic before this, properly, was minor level. I'd like to give it a go now at senior level to see how it goes," he said after receiving his man of the match award.

"Having finished up with the soccer, my ambition now is to try and break into a Mayo squad. So that's where I see myself going forward. Hopefully, it works out."
