Leahy to stay with Mayo ladies until 2021

Mayo manager Peter Leahy is congratulated after the game

Peter Leahy will remain in charge of Mayo ladies footballers until 2021.

RTE Sport reports that the Westmeath man was ratified to two more seasons in charge on Tuesday night.

His name was proposed, seconded and unanimously voted as Mayo ladies football manager until 2021 after having taken the reins of the team at the beginning of this year.

It was a turbulent first season in charge for Leahy, which saw 12 players leaving the panel during the summer as well as two backroom team members.

Eight of the 12 to depart the squad were from the Carnacon club, including star forward Cora Staunton, with Leahy getting the full support of the Mayo LGFA since their departure.

The inter-county futures of the departed players remains in doubt while 11-time All Star Staunton indicated last month that she can’t see herself playing for Mayo again.
