Ballintubber are through to this year’s Mayo SFC final after an epic extra-time semi-final replay victory over holders Castlebar Mitchels at MacHale Park this evening.

Seven days ago, extra-time failed to separate the local rivals but it did produce a winner on this occasion as Ballintubber scraped home by the narrowest of margins - 0-16 to 0-15.

Joe Geraghty sent over what proved to be the winning score in a dramatic climax to extra-time.

Mitchels were never going to relinquish their title without a fight and they overturned a 0-5 to 0-7 interval deficit to take the lead entering the home straight of the regulation 60 minutes before Cillian O’Connor converted a tricky free with the last kick to force extra-time.

The teams were tied on 0-12 apiece when the referee brought normal time to an end.

It was advantage Ballintubber (0-14 to 0-13) at half-time in extra-time and they went to claim a dramatic victory thanks to Geraghty’s decisive strike.

The winners won’t be able to bask in the glory of this win for too long as they have to switch their focus to a final date with Breaffy which is scheduled for next Saturday night.
