Offaly have officially ratified John Maughan as their new senior football manager at a meeting of the county board tonight.

The Crossmolina native succeeds interim manager Paul Rouse, who stepped in this past summer following Stephen Wallace’s dramatic departure after the Faithful County’s Leinster SFC defeat to Wicklow.

Maughan famously led Clare to a Munster senior football championship in 1992 and also helped Mayo to All-Ireland final appearances in 1996, '97 and 2004, where they lost out to Meath and Kerry (twice) respectively.

Having also had stints with Roscommon and Fermanagh in the past, his new role means he will have managed at inter-county level in all four provinces.

Maughan’s senior inter county management experience adds up to 14 years in total and this latest voyage will undoubtedly see him looking to steer Offaly football out of one of its darkest ages.
