Carnacon win appeal

Carnacon's Cora Staunton accepts the Delores Tyrell Cup

Carnacon have successfully appealed against their explusion from the Mayo senior ladies football championship.

The All-Ireland club champions were removed from the county championship after eight of their players walked out of Peter Leahy's county squad in June, while two members of the backroom team also stepped down citing player welfare issues. The Mayo Ladies Gaelic Football Association voted to throw them out, but they will now get to defend their county, provincial and All-Ireland titles after they were reinstated at a Connacht Council meeting last night.

The decision means that Cora Staunton and co are now free to face to Castlebar Mitchels in the county championship next month.
