Mayo under-20 manager Michael Solan admits that midfielder Jordan Flynn was wrong to interfere with the referee in Sunday's All-Ireland football final defeat to Mayo, but added that the youngster's age should be taken into consideration.

Flynn is looking at a lengthy suspension after he appeared to push referee Niall Cullen twice after he was sent off during the loss to Kildare.

One of the shoves caused Cullen to stumble back and the Crossmolina clubman could now face a long ban, but Solan has urged the CCCC to go easy on the youngster.

"Obviously Jordan has interfered with the official," Solan admitted to the Western People. "From Jordan's point of view; he's a young lad. He's probably just had a little bit of flash there and he's interfered with the official.

"Jordan knows that he's done wrong. We know that Jordan's done wrong. He's a young lad and people make mistakes. We're going to help Jordan and obviously support him in any way we can.

"Jordan doesn't need anyone to tell him that he's made an error."
