Mayo captain Ryan O'Donoghue has claimed Kildare are favourites to be crowned inaugural All-Ireland U20 football champions in Croke Park next Sunday.

The Belmullet man is under no illusions about the task facing his side against the Lilywhites who ousted a much-fancied Kerry in the semi-final.

"We'd be confident in ourselves, but I think Kildare are deserved favourites," he told the Western People.

"They've beaten Kerry, who were the favourites, and they've beaten Dublin in Leinster. But if we weren't confident in ourselves there'd be no point playing."

O'Donoghue insisted that Mayo wouldn't be fazed by playing in Croker.

"If you think about Croke Park, the pitch, the big stadium, you could become over-run by it, but it's just another game. Game 4, that's what we're calling it. We've played in Dr Hyde Park, MacHale Park, Carrick-on-Shannon. We're thinking of it as two goalposts and that the lines are in the same place," he added.
