Roscommon struck four second-half goals to down Mayo in this evening's second round Connacht minor (U17) football championship clash in Kiltoom, where it finished 4-12 to 0-11 in favour of the home side.

Rossies skipper Shane Cunnane and full-forward Adam McDermott combined for all but one of the winners' first-half tally as they took in a 0-9 to 0-5 lead at the interval.

James Fitzpatrick hit the Mayo net early in the restart and the game would well and truly be put beyond the visitors' reach once McDermott hammered home his side's second major six minutes later.

Enda Hession's frees bumped the Mayo tally up to 0-7 but McDermott soon had the ball in their onion bag again and the in-form full-forward's hat-trick was complete with four minutes to go to help put a seal on the impressive 13-point victory for his team.

In Markievicz Park, there was minimal fuss for Donal O'Faharta's Galway side as they dished out a 3-15 to 0-10 hammering to hosts Sligo.

The young Tribesmen never looked back after goaling in the 13th minute, as they built up a 2-6 to 0-5 lead at half-time, and went on to add another 1-9 in the second-half while keeping their Yeats counterparts to the same margin again.
