Walsh plays down promotion talk

Mayo hurlers huddle.

Mayo manager Derek Walsh believes any talk of promotion from NHL Division 2B is very premature at the moment.

The Connacht side have won all three of their games to date including last weekend's comeback against Derry which saw them trail the Oak Leaf County by six points at the break.

Despite being in a prime position, Walsh stated to the Western People that they have a lot of work to do before they can even mention promotion.

"We're definitely not looking at promotion," said Walsh. "We have a lot of work to do. We probably have the two toughest teams in the division left now. Wicklow and Down.

"Look, we have a lot of new players in there this year. We said to them there in the dressing rooms that this is how teams build a bit of character. They never gave up; they were never beaten. They just kept going right to the end and that's the sign of a great team going forward.

"We're just looking forward to Wicklow now next week and we'll try and get a performance and we'll see what happens."
