No divided loyalties for Finnerty

Mayo's Anthony Finnerty charges with the ball during the 1989 All-Ireland final against Cork

Anthony Finnerty will be cheering for Galway when they take on his native Mayo in tomorrow's FBD FL round 2 clash at MacHale Park.

Blood is thicker than water as far as the former Mayo star forward concerned and he will be rooting for his son Robert who has been called up to Kevin Walsh's Tribesmen senior panel.

"A friend of mine used to say, 'If Galway pick the right team, I'll support them!'" he quipped in an interview with SunSport.

"When your own family are involved, my loyalties are very much with Galway. I'll be in the Galway corner.

"After that, maybe later on in the year, hopefully Mayo are going for another All-Ireland and I'll certainly be supporting them.

"But when family are involved, that comes before even my own county and the colours at this stage. It changes things."
