Cardinal O'Donnell Cup semi-final: Dreadnots bounce back from relegation woes

September 18, 2017

Paraic Smith - Dreadnots

DREADNOTS 2-10

DUNDALK GAELS 0-6

Dreadnots bounced back from the disappointment of their Senior Championship exit when they outclassed Dundalk Gaels to book a place in the Cardinal O'Donnell Cup Final.

The Clogherhead men produced a fine performance in the second half during which Pepe Smith and Richard Kirwan found the net to secure a comfortable victory.

When the teams met in the final league game two weeks ago it was the Dundalk men who came out on top, but on this occasion they were unable to match their opponents with their sights now firmly set on the Senior Championship semi-final.

The first half proved to be a relatively close encounter with the teams trading points for much of the 30 minutes. Smith and Anthony Lynch were among those on target for the Dreadnots but Derek Crilly and Eanna McArdle provided the response as the Clogher men went in at the break leading by 0-6 to 0-4.

The second half proved to be a different affair as the Dreadnots took a firm grip on proceedings and Smith's goal put them very much in the driving seat.

The Dundalk men were unable to respond and the Clogherhead outfit ran out comfortable winners with Richard Kirwan's goal putting result beyond any doubt.
