O'Connell's G.F.C. Club Notes

Championship: The Louth championship draws were made in our clubrooms on Sunday night and O'Connell's will play St. Kevins in the quarter finals of the intermediate championship. The other quarter finals pairings are St. Bride's v Naomh Fionnbarra, Hunterstown Rovers v Clan Na Gael and Mattock Rangers v St. Mochtas, times and dates to be confirmed. 

 

Bingo: Bingo will continue in our clubrooms this Wednesday 26th July at 8.00pm, jackpot €4,400 in 48 numbers. 

 

Minor: The All Ireland Minor Football quarter final Louth versus Kerry is fixed for O'Moore Park Portlaoise on Saturday 5th August at 1.15pm.

 

Social Dancing: There will be social dancing on Bank Holiday Monday 7th August in our clubrooms from 9.00pm, music by Curtis McGee, admission €10 and refreshments will be served.

 

Leinster Club Draws: The draws for the Leinster club championships were made recently and Louth senior champions will play Wicklow senior champions with the winners playing the Dublin senior champions in the quarter finals, our intermediate champs will meet the county Carlow champs and the winners will play the Meath champs in the quarter finals, our Junior champs will play the Westmeath champs with the winners playing the Offaly champions.  

 

Poc Fada: The All Ireland Poc Fada on the mountain at Annaverna Ravensdale Co Louth takes place this year on Saturday 5th August. As usual we are looking for Volunteers to act as Feighlí Score, Maor, Giolla and Gasóg, their main duties are: The Feighlí Scoir shall make an accurate record of The Hurler's score, poc by poc. He must record each poc on the scorecard - immediately as it occurs: The Maor and Gasóg keep exactly to the course  The Maor give the "ready" signal to poc and records each Poc on the scorecard when taken: The Giolla will make the necessary supply of score-flags available to The Gasóg, from start to finish. The Gasóg accompanying The Maor watches the flight of each poc, assists The Maor in finding the Sliothar, placing each flag and goes to collect the score-flags from The Giolla. There are also people required to cover The Three Turing Points and to act as referees all along the Course. Training can be provided if anyone want to help for the 1st time.
