Hugh McGrane Naomh Fionnbarra

A late goal from Hugh McGrane followed by a Jack Butterly point gave Nh Fionnbarra a dramatic 3-11 to 2-13 victory over St Fechins that sees them move clear at the top of the Division 2 table.

William Woods got the Barrs off to a great start with a goal from a penalty on ten minutes, but the Fechins hit back with goals from Niall and Brian Devlin had the home side leading by 2-6 to 1-5 at the break.

Woods added another penalty goal early in the second half but the Fechins looked to be set for victory when they led by six points with four minutes remaining. The Barrs refused to give up and reeled off three quick points before McGrane and Butterly combined to win the game.

Hunterstown dropped their first point of the campaign when they were held to a 0-12 apiece draw at home by the Oliver Plunketts.

Alan Landy was in good form for Rovers in the first half but his side trailed at the break by 0-7 to 0-6.

The home side saw Muiris O Suilleabhain and Brendan Lennon hit the target as they looked on course for victory but they failed to score in the final quarter as the Plunketts hit back to claim a draw.

Glen Emmets recorded what could prove to be a vital win as they defeated Na Piarsaigh by 6-14 to 2-10 in a relegation battle at Tullyallen.

The first half produced plenty of goals with Sean Byrne (2), Ronan Grufferty and Robbie Byrne all raising green flags. Mark Larkin pulled one back for Na Piarsaigh but his side went in at the break trailing by 4-5 to 1-4

The Dundalk men were unable to launch a comeback in the second half as Grufferty and Mark Garvey hit the net for the Emmets to seal the win. David Boyle scored a second goal for Na Piarsaigh.

Meanwhile St Josephs came out on top against neighbours O'Connells on a 3-13 to 4-9 scoreline.

The first half was a relatively tame affair and ended with the teams level at six points apiece although a Conal O'Hanlon point for the Joes was hotly disputed.

The goals started to flow in the second half with Jackie Agnew's early effort cancelled out by Tomas Smyth before O'Hanlon added another to put the Joes 2-10 to 1-7 in front. Paul McKeever and Craig Doherty then traded goals to leave the Joes in a commanding position before Sean Cairns hit the net for the O'Connells.

Cairns added a second goal late in the game to reduce the gap to just one but time ran out before his side could complete the comeback.

St Brides notched up their fourth win in four outings in the Division 2 League with this comprehensive 2-19 to 2-6 win in the GAA Grounds on Friday night.

St Brides were in control of this match from start to finish and were 1-10 to 0-4 to the good at half time with Kevin Hearty grabbing the Brides goal. Barry Flanagan and Ben Rogan scored the O Raghallaighs goals.

Although the hosts scored two goals in the second half St. Brides tagged on another 1-9 with the help of Hearty's second goal to run out winners by 13 points.

Two late points from Eamonn O'Neill and a goal from Nigel Farrell helped St Mochtas pick up a vital 1-11 to 0-10 win over Young Irelands in a very close encounter.

The game saw the Louth Village side race into a 0-7 to 0-2 lead before the Irelanders pegged them back to trail by just 0-7 to 0-5 at the break.

With five minutes remaining the teams were level at nine points apiece when O'Neill fired over a brace before Farrell scored the only goal of the game to secure the win that leaves Young Irelands yet to pick up a point in the league so far.
