SFC: Mary's impress against O Raghallaighs

July 25, 2016

Alan Kirk - St Marys

ST MARYS 1-17
O RAGHALLAIGHS 1-4

St Marys turned in an impressive performance in defeating O Raghallaighs by 13 points to ensure they finished top of Senior Championship Group 1.

The Ardee men were never in any serious danger of losing this game in Stabannon on Sunday evening as their pace, strength and determination, allied with a keen eye for a score saw them easily account for an O Raghallaighs side who failed to find any rhythm, particularly in an attacking sense.

As a result of this encouraging team effort, the winners will take on Nh Mairtin in the quarter-finals.

The Mid Louth side seized the initiative from the outset and had points on the board from Paudy Clarke, Niall Eccles and Ronan Carroll before Ruairi Moore had the first point of the game for the O Raghallaighs.

With Alan Kirk in fine form, the Marys went 0-7 to 0-1 in front before the Drogheda side briefly halted their gallop with a Ben Rogan goal. However, two late scores from Dean Matthews had the Marys leading by 0-9 to 1-1 at the break.

Any chance of an O Raghallaighs comeback disappeared within three minutes of the restart as John Bingham came up from the back to find the net.
It was game over at that stage as the Marys cruised to victory and their impressive team play was rewarded with a further seven points including efforts from Kirk, Mark Fay, Jamie Rooney and Darren Clarke.
