County Board chairman reports player to Gardai

Louth County Board Chairman Des Halpenny.

Louth chairman Des Halpenny was forced to contact the Gardai after a club player subjected him and his family to "disturbing" abuse.

According to The Drogheda Independent, Halpenny told Monday's County Board meeting in Darver: "My main concern was that a lot of it happened while I was not around, so my wife and two young children were subjected to it.

"I felt obliged to bring the matter to the attention of the Gardai and hopefully that will be the end of it. As far as I'm concerned, it was an isolated incident, but it was disturbing, particularly because I wasn't there when a lot of it took place.

"I hope the player's club will address the matter, too. We all have disagreements over results and games, but this one went over the line and that's not acceptable."
