St Fechins vs Geraldines

May 16, 2016

Division 1 League Round 6

Geraldines 4-12

St Fechins 3-4

A goal by the Gers Glen Trainor in the first minute set the scene for this Division 1 clash played in Haggardstown. Trainor bagged his second goal shortly after and a third goal by Conall Hoey in the tenth minute left the Fechins reeling. A point by Danny Burnell was followed by a converted penalty from Jamie King for the visitors. The Gers piled on the pressure and kicked five more points including two 45's from Michael Rogers before half time. At half time the score was 3-6 to 1-1.

The Fechins, shorn of many regulars, regrouped at the beginning of the second half. Two Burnell points were followed by an Eoghan Duffy goal. Gers keeper Darren Kearney made three excellent stops and his outfield players tapped over three points to maintain their advantage. Jamie King knocked over a free and a minute later rattled the Gers net to leave just six points in it. But that was as close as St Fechins would get. Gareth Neacy goaled and Josh Arrowsmith pointed to deny any chance of a comeback. Shaun Callan finished the Gers scoring with his third point of the night.
