FL3 playoff: Glyde to face Kevin's for title

November 09, 2015

Trevor O'Brien - Glyde Rangers

Glyde Rangers will take on St Kevins for the Division 3 League title and the right to play in Division 2 next season following their 2-11 to 2-6 win over Westerns at Darver on Saturday afternoon.

After the long-running saga involving Glyde, Westerns and St Kevins who finished level at the top, the Division 3 title race finally got back on track.

Westerns felt they should have been declared champions and they began this play-off like a team determined to set the record straight.

They controlled proceedings from the opening quarter and were 0-3 to no score ahead after 18 minutes.

However, they were unable to sustain the effort and Glyde took control, pulled back points through Trevor O'Brien and Conor Sheridan before Brian Duffy got in for the first goal of the game.

Before the break they added a further two points to go in leading by 1-5 to 0-4.

The Tallanstown side pushed on in the third quarter and a Philip McGahon goal increased the gap to 2-9 to 0-6.

The result was never in doubt after that despite the fact that Westerns hit back with two goals.

Glyde now take on St Kevins on Tuesday night with the winners taking the Division 3 title, while the losers will enter the promotion play-offs.
