St. Marys GFC V the Dreadnots 7.15pm Sunday 26th July
A Very wet Dunleer was the venue for the second week in a row as Ardee St Marys played their second group game against the Dreadnots of Clogherhead. The Marys got off to a great start two minutes in when Evan Keenan played the ball to Ryan Rooney who laid it off to Ronan Carroll who slotted over the bar. A minute later and the teams were level when the Dreadnots got a free. Quick thinking by Fergal Diamond in the 4th minute as he took a quick free to Niall Carroll who laid it to Robbie Leavy and Robbie found Ronan who put it over the bar. The Dreadnots levelled again with a point from play in the 7th Minute. The Dreadnots took the lead for the first time in the 9th minutes with a point from a free. The Marys levelled a minute later when Ryan Rooney done well and laid it off to Ronan Carroll who turned his man well and slotted over. In the 11th minute the Dreadnots retook the lead but again in the 15th minute the Marys drew level with a point from Kian Moran. In the 17th minute the Dreadnots were ahead again with a 45 that was well taken, points then followed in the 18th and 19th minutes for the Dreadnots. It could have been worse for The Marys when the ball broke down in the square and broke to a Dreadnots player who snapped a shot at it and John Bingham done well to clear off the line. The Dreadnots then got points in the 24th minute and 26th minute. The first goal of the game came just before half time as the Dreadnots cut through the Marys defence and found the back of the net. Rj Callaghan reduced the lead in injury time with a well taken point.

The Dreadnots flew out of the blocks in the 2nd half with a point after 15 seconds. The Marys got themselves back in the game in the 34th minute when Fergal Diamond again took a quick free kick and found Alan Kirk who found the back of the net with a cool finish. The Dreadnots added points then in the 37th, 44th and 45th minutes to extend their lead. .Alan Kirk then got a point for the Marys in the 47th Minute from a free from distance. The Marys then made a double substitution with Darren Clarke and Eamonn Callaghan coming on for Fergal Diamond and David Carroll. It didn't take long for Darren to get into the game as he got a point from a free straight away. In the 51st minute the Dreadnots got a point from play. The Marys cancelled that out straight away with good work from Robbie Leavy as he found Clarke who calmly slotted over. Kian Moran got a point for the Marys a minute later and he ran well with the ball and beat his man and put it over the bar. Darren Clarke then got a point from a 45 as the Marys refused to go away. A minute later and a long ball in broke and Darren Clarke used his strength well to get the ball up and slot it over and leave a goal between the teams. In the 29th minute the Dreadnots got a point from play to leave four points between the teams. The game was ended when an ambulance had to be called on after an incident which left Darren Clarke going to hospital. All at Ardee St Marys would like to wish Darren a speedy recovery. Best for the Marys were Barry Faulkner, Robbie Leavy and Alan Kirk
