Clan na Gael remain a point clear at the top of Division 2 after the seventh round of games thanks to a 1-14 to 0-8 win away to Roche Emmets on Friday night.

A goal from Conall McKeever combined with a fine penalty save from Gavin Neary helped Clans lead by 1-5 to 0-6 at the break.

Roche were unable to sustain their effort after the break and the Clans tagged on a further ten points to complete the win and leave Roche at the bottom of the table.

Cooley Kickhams kept the pressure on in second place as they remain just a point behind after late scores from Ciaran Sheelan and Patrick Sheelan helped them to a 0-16 to 2-9 win over Oliver Plunketts.

It was the Plunketts who had the better of the first half and two goals from Conor Earley inside the opening quarter helped them to lead by 2-5 to 0-8 at half time.

The Drogheda men were unable to sustain that effort in the second period as Cooley took command and scored eight points to maintain their unbeaten run.

Young Irelands joined Cooley in second on 11 points after a blistering five minute spell just before the break helped them to defeat neighbours Na Piarsaigh by 0-12 to 0-5 at the Rock Road.

The teams were level at three points apiece on 25 minutes, but Young Irelands moved up a gear and scored four unanswered points to take control of the game.

Na Piarsaigh hopes of getting back into contention were ruined by a number of wides in the third quarter, allowing Young Irelands to remain on top and leave with both points.

Derek Maguire top scored for the Young Irelands while Mark Larkin kicked five points for Na Piarsaigh.

St Mochtas moved ahead of Nh Fionnbarra and into fourth place in the table thanks to a 1-11 to 1-6 win at Ballygassan.

The Louth Village men have been in good form of late and continued that momentum in the first half. Their efforts were assisted by the Finbarrs being reduced to 14 men, while a goal from Danny Kindlon has the Mochtas 1-5 to 0-3 ahead at the break.

The second period was a more even affair with the home side giving themselves hope with a goal. However, the Mochtas were not to be denied and with the help of Declan Byrne points they claimed a deserved win. Sub Nicholas Butterly scored a late consolation goal for the Finbarrs.

The Geraldines reignited their promotion chances with a well-earned victory to leapfrog Hunterstown and move up to sixth thanks to a 2-8 to 1-7 win over Hunterstown.

Goals from Josh Arrowsmith and Shaun Callan were the rewards for a good first half display by the Gers as they went in at the break with a 2-1 to 0-4 advantage.

The Haggardstown side dominated the third quarter and stretched the lead to ten points. Hunterstown rallied and hit back with a Ryan Burns goal but it was too late to save the game.

Meanwhile St Brides registered their first win of the season in this closely contested match encounter with St Josephs in bPairc and gCuinnigh as they came out on top by 2-9 to 1-10.

St. Josephs started the better and were well in control but a brace of goals by St Brides star, Aaron Hoey swung advantage to the home side to leave them with a two point lead at half time.

Both sides exchanged points during the second half with St. Brides pulling away in the last ten minutes to lead by five points with full time approaching.

However a goal in added time by St. Josephs from Robert Samosn left St. Brides nervously holding onto a two point lead for the remaining minutes of the match, but they did enough to hold out.
