Unbeaten St. Anne's Reach Senior League Final

May 12, 2015

Louth Senior Camogie League

St. Anne's 3-6
St. Kevin's 3-1

St. Anne's V St. Kevin's -  8th May 2015 in Ballygassan

Played in incessant and bitterly cold rain St. Anne's and St. Kevin's produced an exciting and intriguing encounter as per usual. St. Kevin's needed a win to produce a three way play-off, however a draw would have sufficed for St. Anne's to reach the final.
Both sides missed plenty of scoring chances, but given the inclement weather conditions it was understandable. St. Kevin's were first to find the target with a goal from Niamh Murray. Siobhan Dawdry replied with a point from a place ball. St. Anne's took the lead on 12 minutes as Denise Moynagh found the back of the Kevin's net. However, the lead was short-lived as Donna King quickly responded with a goal at the opposite end to give St. Kevin's a 2 point advantage at the interval.
Half time score: St. Kevin's 2-0, St. Anne's 1-1.
On the resumption, weather conditions didn't improve, but this didn't deter either side and as play began to open up slightly it was Siobhan Dawdry who pointed to reduce the deficit to 1 point. But the omens seemed to turn in St. Kevin's favour as Donna King seized an opportunity of a goal before adding a point without reply, to give the Philipstown girls a 5 point lead with 15 minutes remaining. In true St. Anne's' style, they set about their task in a determined fashion and begin to chip away at St. Kevin's lead. Another Dawdry point from a free, followed by a well engineered Aideen Dunne goal brought it back to a 1 point game. St. Kevin's were very reluctant to relinquish their lead and were supplying their forwards with a good supply of ball, however, the Togher defence particularly Eilish Meaney who gave a spectacular performance cut off the supply to the inside forwards denying any threat.
As the game entered the final 10 minutes, St. Anne's had nothing to lose but push forward, particularly centre field players Moynagh and young Aideen Dunne who ran at the Kevin's defence which paid dividends, as a little bit of indiscipline, yielded three Dawdry points from place balls giving St. Anne's a 2 point edge. St. Kevin's fought hard to regain the advantage  but it didn't materialise and things got worse as Dawdry who was making good use of the supply, finished the scoring with a goal to give St. Anne's a 5 point victory.
