AFL1: Mary's lose to Dreadnots

The day started off with an extremely wet morning but thankfully picked up just in time for the throw in at Clogherhead at 3pm.

St. Mary's were up against a strong breeze in the first half. St Marys opened the scoring in the first minute with an Alan Kirk free kick. The Dreadnots opened their scoring from a 45 in the sixth minute. Ronan Carroll followed this up with a point from play after some good link up play with Barry Faulkner. The Dreadnots scored a point from play in the ninth minute. Paudy Clarke was at the end of a good Mary's move in the tenth minute and slotted the ball over the bar with his weaker right foot. Ronan Carroll got his second point of the day from play in the eleventh minute. Kian Moran opened his account with a free kick in the seventeenth minute after Paudy Clarke was fouled off the ball. St. Mary's seemed to be well on top at this stage with a lead of 3 points. However, from the resultant kick out the Dreadnots went down the pitch and scored two quick goals in succession and a further long range point from play. Alan Kirk point coming from play from good work by Paudy Clarke in the twenty seventh minute. The twenty eighth minute seen another point scored by The Dreadnots. Alan Kirk scored a point for St Mary's again in the thirtieth minute and Kian Moran followed up straight after but The Dreadnots finished the first half with another point from play.

Barry Faulkner opened the scoring of the second half with a point from play after two minutes. The Dreadnots opened their scoring with a point in the fifth minute. Shortly after a Dreadnots defender picked up a black card which saw St Marys score a point with the resulting free kick, scored by Niall Eccles. The Dreadnots then followed this with a good point from play in the eighth minute and a third point of the half for them in the ninth minute. Two minutes later Ronan Carroll rattled the crossbar from close range with the resulting rebound being blasted wide. The Dreadnots now appeared to be pulling ahead with another score resulting from a free kick in the twenty second minute. St Mary's also scored from an Alan Kirk free kick in the twenty fourth minute. The twenty seventh minute saw another score for The Dreadnots scored from a free kick leaving them 5 points ahead leading into the final minutes. The remaining few minutes was made up of three additional points, two for The Dreadnots and one for St Mary's. The Dreadnots deserved their win on the day.
