March 23, 2015

Cooley's Conor McGuinness

Cooley Kickhams began life in the Division 2 League when they snatched a draw at home to St Brides after scoring 1-3 in the closing five minutes.

The Knockbridge side looked to be on their way to victory when they held what appeared to be a comfortable win. However, Cooley pulled back two points before Conor McGuinness hit the net and there was still time for Michael Rafferty to land a dramatic equaliser.

The Brides had been on top for much of the game and at the break were leading by 1-5 to 0-2 with Cathal McKenna scoring their goal.

Dundalk Young Irelands made it a successful start to the 2015 season as they came home from Drogheda with a deserved 2-10 to 0-6 win over Oliver Plunketts.

The visitors made their intentions clear with an energetic start to the game and by the interval they had built up a 0-8 to 0-3 lead.

The Dundalk men continued to dominate after the break and goals from Mark Savage and Derek Maguire gave them a healthy lead and effectively ended the game as a contest .

After winning promotion last season, Nh Fionnbarra continued on their winning ways when they recorded a 1-10 to 1-4 win over Geraldines at John Markey Park on Sunday.

The Haggardstown side went in at the break trailing by 0-4 to 0-3 but they will be disappointed that they didn't make more of a number of goal chances that came their way in the first 30 minutes.

The Finbarrs made them pay for those lapses when they took command in the second half. William Woods led the way with some fine points while Oisin McGee's goal made sure of victory. Michael Rogers did find the net for the Gers but it was too little to save the game.

Clan na Gael maintained their good start to the season when they came out on top against Hunterstown Rovers in Dundalk on a scoreline of 1-9 to 0-11.

The Dundalk men were made to work for their win as they had to withstand a spirited second half comeback from Hunterstown.

At half time the Clans looked to be cruising when they led by 1-8 to 0-4, but Hunterstown dominated the second half by outscoring their opponents 0-7 to 0-1. However, in the end they fell just short of rescuing something from the game.

St Josephs had to battle back from an interval deficit of three points before claiming a narrow 1-12 to 1-11 win over St Mochtas in Louth Village.

The hosts got off to a slow start but took a grip of the game and a Nigel Farrell goal helped them lead by 1-6 to 0-6 at half time.

The Joes then raised their game and completed the comeback thanks to a goal from Conall Smyth.

The Division 2 league action commenced on Thursday night when Roche Emmets and Na Piarsaigh produced an entertaining encounter that finished all square at 1-11 apiece.

Cormac Malone grabbed the only goal of the first half to give the Dundalk men the advantage, but Barry O'Hare's kicking ensured his side went in at the break level at 1-4 to 0-7.

In the tenth minute of second half Na Piarsaigh's Sean McAuley got his marching orders but this inspired the visitors into a three point lead as Mark Larkin landed some fine scores, only for an incredible Roche goal on 18 minutes from Dan O'Connell to level the game and that is how it stayed to the end.
