Blues complete remarkable quadruple

October 30, 2014

When the season reviewers sit down to summarise the 2014 football season in Louth one club will shine like a beacon -  Newtown Blues.
Sunday gone seen them complete the minor championship and league double when they beat Mattock/Hunterstown combination in the division 1 league final by 5 points. This achievement alone is outstanding but when you factor in the Under 16 Championship and league double you get the picture. The 16's beat Naomh Mairtin in the championship final and St Kevins/Glyde rangers combination in the league final while the Minors beat Geraldines in the championship  and the afore mentioned Mattack/Hunterstown in the league final.

Playing with their usual swagger the minor team went through the season unbeaten while their Under 16 counterparts lost only 2 games all season.  Both teams where coached and managed by the same group of mentors in Colm Nally, Martin Carr, Damien Martin, John Donohue, Kevin Mc Donnell and Dessie Murray.

The minors now embark on Leinster with a tricky assignment away to the Carlow champions Tinryland.
