Nicky Malone will serve Naomh Mairtin as first-team manager again in 2009. The former Louth captain was ratified at the club's AGM to stay on at the helm, where he will be assisted by selectors Aidan Berrill and Eddie Martin (the latter replacing Noel Healy). The Monasterboice men made a disappointing start to 2008 but recovered well to retain their senior status. When Lannleire clubman Malone took over mid-season the previous year, he inspired a magnificent run to the knockout stage of the Joe Ward Cup.
