Naomh Fionbarra suffered a 2 point defeat at the hands of O'Connells at the Grove, Castlebellingham on a balmy Sunday evening in the 2nd Round of Division 2B.  The Barrs started brightest and led 0-3 to 0-2 in the first quarter, with points from William Woods (an excellent free from the right wing), Thomas McCreesh and Liam Shevlin.  An O'Connells goal against the run of play brought the Castlebellingham men 2 points to the good.  The Finbarrs were playing good football at this stage and replied with another Shevlin point to reduce the lead to 1.  Stuart Reynolds denied William Woods with a great save to keep their lead intact.  Shortly afterwards Woods had the ball in the net but it was ruled out by the referee for square ball.  2 more points by the O'Connells towards the end of the first half extended their lead as the Barrs could only manage a well taken long range effort from Woods in reply.  Half time score:  Naomh Fionnbarra 0-5(5) O'Connells 1-4(7).

The Castlebellingham men made the 3rd quarter their own as they dominated the middle third and made it count on the scoreboard as they took a 6 point lead kicking 5 points as the Togher men could only reply with a William Woods point from play.  Things looked ominous for the Togher men at this stage however Darren McConnon battled hard in the middle of the field and Conor Osborne got onto the breaking ball.  Some good interplay by the Barrs forwards finished with Conor Osborne making no mistake when he was put through.  The Finbarrs tails were up at this stage and further points from Woods (1 free and 1 sideline ball) reduced the lead to a single score.  The sides then traded 2 scores each, the Barrs scores coming from Ciaran Markey and Adam Hanratty.   A fine Thomas McCreesh score levelled the game.  Both sides fought hard for supremacy and O'Connells found the key to victory after 1 of their players were dragged down inside the Barrs square for a penalty.  Jackie agnew made no mistake with a screamer into the top right hand corner leaving Matthew O'Reilly with no chance.  A William Woods free finished the scoring and try as they might the Togher men could not get back on terms.  Final score:  Naomh Fionnbarra 1-12(15) O'Connells 2-11(17)
