GERALDINES 0-10

Nh Mairtin will have the chance to make up for their 2018 Senior Final disappointment after they booked a return to the decider with victory over Geraldines on Friday night.

The Monasterboice side missed out on the Joe Ward Cup after a late collapse 12 months ago but they will be hoping to claim their first title when they take on Netown Blues on October 13.

Two goals from Sam Mulroy proved to be the difference between the teams at Stabannon as Geraldines fell short in their bid to end a 37-year wait for a senior title.

Fresh from their Cardinal O’Donnell Cup victory, Nh Mairtin went into the game in confident mood and with JP Rooney (2), Sam Mulroy and Stephen Campbell on the target they led by 0-4 to 0-1 inside the first quarter. Jim McEneaney pointed for the Gers.

The Haggardstown side hit back and a brace from McEneaney along with a Matt Corcoran point saw the deficit cut to 0-5 to 0-4.

However, the Martins finished the half on top and two Sam Mulroy points had his side leading by 0-7 to 0-4 at the break.

James Craven and Conor Whelan traded points early in the second half before the Jocks took firm control with a goal from Mulroy to make it 1-8 to 0-5.

Just before the end of the third quarter Mulroy added a second goal to put the game beyond any lingering doubt and they held out to claim a deserved six-point victory.
