July 22, 2019

Naomh Fionnbarra suffered a 8 point defeat to Mattock  Rangers in 2nd Round of the Intermediate Football Championship on Saturday evening at the Gaelic Grounds, Drogheda. Played in sunny, dry conditions excellent for football the Togher men took an early lead with a point from Oisin McGee after 2 minutes.  The Barrs joy was short lived as Brendan Lacey raced through for a goal shortly afterwards. The Finbarrs took control and scored the next 3 points from Ciaran Markey, Padraig Butterly(free) and Oisin McGee (free) while playing good football. Mattock equalised with a point but this was cancelled out by a well taken point by Chris McGlynn after 12 minutes.

Mattock scored the next 2 points to regain the lead however, Adam Hanratty scored a well taken equaliser from play after good build up play on 18 minutes.  Mattock then scored the next 3 points to take a firm grip on proceedings.  Both teams shared the final 4 points of the half with the Barrs scores coming from placed balls from Padraig Butterly and Hugh Osborne.  Half time score: Naomh Fionnbarra 0-8(8) Mattock Rangers 1-8(11)

The Collon men kicked the first 3 points of the 2nd half earning a 6 point lead. The Finbarrs battled hard but could not get the scores they needed. Conor Osborne got the Togher men off the mark from play on 14 minutes.  An Oisin McGee free was all the Finbarrs could offer in reply to 2 more Mattock scores.  A second goal from the Collon men after a mix up from a kick out sealed the Barrs fate.  The game was closed out with 2 more Oisin McGee frees and another Mattock single.  Full time score: Naomh Fionnbarra 0-12(12) Mattock Rangers 2-14(20).
