April 22, 2019

Geraldines remain top of Division with full points from four games following this 3-15 to 1-9 win over neighbours, St Brides on Friday night.

The Brides made a promising start and were 0-3 to 0-1 ahead in the early stages, only for the Gers to hit back and take the lead with points from Dara Hamill, Josh Arrowsmith and Jim McEneaney. A goal from Gareth Neacy put the Haggardstown side in the driving seat as they led by 1-7 to 0-6 at half time.

Five minutes into the second half the Geraldines increased their lead with a Stephen Reidy goal which opened the Gers lead to eight. Two more points from the Gers, one from Dara Hamill and another customary score from Fearghal ‘Chippy' McDonald, had the Gers cruising before Josh Arrowsmith fired in the third goal.

The Brides added a late goal but it was merely a consolation effort as the Gers had the points wrapped up at that stage.

A tenth minute fisted goal from Carl Monaghan was ultimately the difference between the teams as Dreadnots overcame St Patricks by 1-13 to 0-13 at Lordship on Friday night.

That goal helped the Clogherhead side lead by 1-4 to 0-1 in the opening quarter and when they half time whistle sounded the visitors were leading by 1-9 to 0-5. Nathan Sutherland, Anthony Williams, Pepe Smith and Jay Hughes were on target for the Dreadnots with Cathal Grogan, Tadhg O’Connor and Gavin Gregory responding for the hosts.

St Patricks refused to give up and hit the target through Darren O’Hanlon, Jack Murphy and Danny O’Connor to cut the gap to just one point entering the final minute. However, the Dreadnots came good at the end as points from James Califf and Monaghan saw them claim victory.

St Marys also have full points from their three games after scoring a 3-9 to 1-12 win away to a Newtown Blues side who now have just one point from four matches.

The Drogheda men got off to a great start with a Conor Moore goal on five minutes but Karl Faulkner responded in the second quarter as his side went into the break with a 1-7 to 1-6 lead.

In an entertaining second half the lead changed hands a number of times. The visitorswere boosted by a Liam Jackson penalty goal on 35 minutes but scores from Ciaran Downey kept the Blues in the hunt. However, Jackson’s second goal in the closing stages proved decisive as his team held out for an important win.

Mattock Rangers picked up their first win of the season when a late point from Aaron O’Brien helped them defeat Nh Mairtin by 2-11 to 0-16 in Collon on Friday night.

JP Watters stood out in the first half as he grabbed two goals to help his side lead by 2-5 to 0-6 at half time.

The Mairtins were hoping to bounce back from their defeat the previous week and had points from Sam Mulroy, JP Rooney and Francis McCullough as they got back into the game. However, it was a late point from O’Brien that saw Mattock come out with the victory.

The Sean O'Mahony's got back to winning ways with an emphatic 0-11 to 0-5 victory over Clan na nGael on the Point Road on Good Friday.

After the disappointment of losing out to an injury-time point in Lordship last week, the Point Road lads were much less wasteful in front of the posts this week, kicking 12 point in total.

In a low scoring first half, both defences were on top throughout, leaving scoring opportunities thin on the ground, but still the home side were 0-4 to 0-2 ahead at the break with Mark Newell and Sean O’Hanlon on target for the visitors.

The lads from the Quay slowly pulled away in the second period with the majority of the scores coming from the usual suspects, as in Conor Finnegan and Stephen Kilcoyne, with Sean Mathews and substitute Danny O'Brien chipping in with one from play apiece, leaving them with a seven-point winning margin.

Cooley Kickhams returned home from Drogheda with their second win of the season as they defeate O Raghallaighs by 0-15 to 1-7.

In a tight first half, Cooley had the greater share of possession but a goal from Ben Rogan saw the home side go in at the break level at 1-3 to 0-6.

The Kickhams upped the pace in the second half and emerged with a deserved win as Emmet Rogan, Fearghal Malone, Michael Rafferty and Aoghain McGuinness contributed vital scores.
