Division 2

O’Connells, Young Irelands and St Fechins continued to lead the way in Division 2 after all three teams made it three wins from their opening three fixtures.

O’Connells proved too strong for Oliver Plunketts at The Grove on Saturday evening as they recorded a 3-14 to 1-10 win.

The hosts were in impressive form in the first half and goals from Niall Conlon and Cian Doyle had them leading by 2-9 to 0-4 at the break.

Goalkeeper Luke Haggins kicked four points as he tried to keep the Plunketts in touch but Cian Doyle added a third goal from the rebound after his penalty had been saved. Dean Carolan scored what proved to be a consolation goal for the Plunketts.

Young Irelands maintained their 100 per cent record after a late goal from Kevin Keelan helped them defeat St Kevins by 1-9 to 2-5 in an entertaining game.

The Kevins had the better of the opening quarter and found the net through Paul Duff and Patrik Duff only for the Young Irelands to reduce the gap at the break to 2-2- to 0-6 with the help of points from Jordan O’Donoghue and Peter McStravick.

The Dundalk side drew level when Dermot Mone pointed before Keelan found the net on 45 minutes. It proved to be the Young Irelands last score but it was enough for victory despite two late points from the Kevins.

St Fechins also kept pace at the top of the table thanks to a 0-16 to 1-10 win away to Nh Fionnbarra.

The Barrs scores in the first half came from Padraic Murphy 0-3, Jack Butterly, William Woods and Adam Hanratty but it was St Fechins who were leading by 0-10 to 0-6 at the break.

The Finbarrs made a good start to the second half with a goal by Adam Hanratty, however, injuries to Josh Crosbie, William Woods and John Doyle did not help the Togher men’s cause. Points from Padraic Murphy 0-3 and Ciaran Markey were not enough to reel the Termonfeckin men in.

St Mochtas got back to winning ways with a 0-21 to 0-12 win over Hunterstown Rovers on Friday night.

Declan Byrne was the top-scorer for the winners as he finished with ten points, while there were also important scores from Eamon O’Neill, Gerry Garland and Jamie Farrell.

At half time the Mochtas were leading by 0-11 to 0-6 and they completed the comfortable win despite Rovers scoring through Ryan Burns, Ryan Ward, David Finn and Glen Mathews.

Kilkerley Emmets are up and running in the league following a 1-18 to 1-11 win at home to Glyde Rangers on Good Friday.

An early goal from Shaun McElroy helped the hosts take a 1-4 to 0-1 lead but Glyde hit back before the break through Aaron Devlin, Dion Conlon and Niall Sharkey to cut the gap to 1-7 to 0-7.

A Ciaran Sheridan goal got the Tallanstown side back into the game but Kilkerley regained control and points from Shane Lennon, Cathal Bellew and Ciaran Clarke helped them come out on top.

A late point from Alan Quigley gave St Josephs a share of the spoils at The Ramparts as Dundalk Gaels picked up their first point of the campaign in a 1-12 apiece draw.

The Joes began well and it was a goal from Quigley that helped them lead by five points. However, the Gaels responded well and found the net through Jason Clarke to make it 1-6 each at the break.

The teams traded points throughout the second half and it looked as if the Gaels had done enough to win when Gary Shevlin landed a free. However, Quigley had the final say as he pointed a long range free in the final minute to earn a share of the spoils.
