Division 3A

Roche Emmets continued their impressive start to the Division 3A League season as they scored a 2-12 to 3-3 victory over Lannleire in Dunleer on Friday night.

Goals from Eugene Murray and Liam Dawe had the visitors very much in charge but Colin Murphy found the net for Lannleire to cut the gap to 2-9 to 1-1 at the break.

Colin Murphy and Bob Murphy found the net for Lannleire in the second half but Roche always remained in charge and points from Barry O’Hare, Shane Byrne and Dawe were enough to see them comfortably across the line.

Glen Emmets were in fine form in front of the posts as they scored an impressive 5-15 to 0-9 win over Stabannon Parnells.

The Tullyallen men got on top in the early stages with goals from James Butler and Isaac Walsh and then finished the half strongly with further three-pointers from Walsh and Andrew Mooney to lead by 4-7 to 0-4 at half time.

Aonghus Giggins top-scored for Stabannon with seven points but it was the Emmets who added the fifth goal through substitute David Bracken to seal the win.

Na Piarsaigh suffered a surprise defeat at the hands of Nh Malachi as they went down by 1-12 to 0-5 at Courtbane on Sunday morning.

The visitors had the better of the first half and points from Alan McCartney and Eamonn McAuley helped them to lead by 0-5 to 0-1 at the break.

However, it was the Malachis who took over in the second half and Jack Kirwan scored the only goal of the game to help them run out comfortable winners.

Division 3B

Annaghminnon Rovers came from behind to record another win in Division 3B as the came out on top against Cuchulainn Gaels by 2-10 to 1-10 at Stonetown.

A penalty save from Brendan O’Hagan and a goal from JP Elmore helped the Omeath side to lead by 1-6 to 0-3 at half time.

Cuchulainn Gaels stretched their lead to seven points early in the second half but a Shane McMahon goal spurred Annaghminnon on, along with some great points from Fergal Markey, David Marron and a goal from a Conor Russell penalty as the hosts held out to win.

There is no doubt that the difference between the teams was county midfielder Tommy Durnin who had an outstanding match playing a part in all of the home side’s scores as the Westerns defeated Sean McDermotts by 1-10 to 1-6.

Once he gained procession, the Sean’s found it very difficult to hold him but having said that the visitors could have been in a much better position at the break after squandering two goal chances and not taking advantage of a strong wind.

The home side made much better use of the elements in the second half placing the county man up front and getting the ball to him at every opportunity, while Ciaran

Campbell scored the vital goal. Once again Danny Commins had an outstanding match for the Sean’s while goalsscorer Lorcan Myles, along with Sean McMahon and Peter Osborne were others to catch the eye.

Dowdallshill picked up their first win of the season in the Louth Division 3B League, after coming from behind to beat St Nicholas by 2-8 to 0-7 in Sunday’s match at a blustery Rathmullen.

The Nicks had the aid of a strong wind in the first half but were unable to capitalise on their advantage. Points from Derek Kierans, Phillip Kirwan and Evan Byrne had the hosts leading 0-5 to 0-1 at the break but ultimately a number of missed chances and poor play would cost them.

The Dundalk men put in a huge second half performance to turn the tables on the home side, boosted by goals from Gerry McShane and substitute Dylan Cahill. Top scorer for the Nicks was Derek Kierans with three points, while Sam Reilly, Paddy Murtagh and Evan Byrne also hit the target.

John Mitchels played host to the Wolfe Tones in a tight contest on Sunday last in a game that finished level at 1-10 to 2-7. It was the home side who started well with some fine scores against a strong breeze in the first half. Tones however found scores to reply and at the half time break it was 2-4 to 1-5 to the Tones.

During the second half the Tones found themselves kicking seven wides and missing a penalty, which was saved by sub keeper Brendan McMahon. Mitchels managed two points to bring the scores level when Tones pulled away again with scores from Adam Gartland and Patrick Fanning.

As the game drew to a close, the Mitchels tucked away another free and in the fifth minute of injury time a free on the inside of the 45 proved to be the leveller.
