Carlton's Ciaran Byrne

Aussie Rules star Ciaran Byrne helped his home club St Mochtas reached the Louth IFC final after making his first appearance for the Louth Village outfit since 2013 yesterday.

Byrne, who has returned home to his native Louth ahead of the start of Carlton Blues' up and coming pre-season training camp, came on as a substitute in the second-half of St Mochtas' 1-10 to 0-11 victory over Mattock Rangers in Ardee.

His older brother and current Louth footballer Declan got the all-important goal to set up a final meeting with St Fechins on October 14.

Affectionately known as 'Casey', 23-year-old Byrne was a regular for the Blues towards the end of this season after a comeback from a three-month injury lay-off.

Since joining the Blues in 2014 and making his senior AFL debut the following year, Byrne has endured back luck with injuries including a torn anterior cruciate ligament in 2016.
