KILKERLEY EMMETS 0-9

Geraldines will remain in Division 1 for another season after coming through a closely contested promotion/relegation final against Kilkerley Emmets at Darver on Friday evening.

The Haggardstown side had slightly the better of the game overall but it took second half goals from Glen Trainor and Josh Arrowsmith to finally see off the Emmets who will remain in Division 2 as a result of this defeat.

Kilkerley opened well and had the first point from Tadgh McEneaney and although Jim McEneaney cancelled out that score, Sean Hand then pointed to put his side back in front.

The North Louth side will be disappointed with a total of six wides over the first half hour and they were made to pay by a Gers side who kicked three in succession through McEneaney, Patrick Hoey and Sean Thornton.

Although Shane Lennon pulled one back from a free, it was the Gers who completed the first half scoring through McEneaney to lead by 0-5 to 0-3.

The McGeough Park men were given a huge boost four minutes into the second half when Trainor scored the first goal of the game and when McEneaney followed up with a point, his side was leading by 1-6 to 0-3.

Kilkerley responded well to the challenge and hit back through McEneaney (2), Lennon (2) and James Fegan to cut the gap to just one point.

However, the Gers ensured they didn’t get back on terms as McEneaney and Trainor again pointed at the other end.

McEneaney sent over a late point to keep his side in the game but the Gers finally put the game beyond doubt when Arrowsmith scored the second goal of the game in the closing stages.
