August 20, 2018

Meath's Barry Thompson finds the Louth net despite the best efforts of Niall Brady and Evan Maher during the Gerry Reilly Cup semi final at Millbrook

Meath 5-13 Louth 1-11

Meath got off to a flyer in the Gerry Reilly Leinster U16 FT Semi-Final  played on Sunday evening in Millbrook, Oldcastle.

Niall Finnerty's great  pass to Barry Thompson, who finished to the net for Meath's first goal  almost from the throw in. Another pass from Niall Finnerty saw Evan  Corrigan get Meath's second goal in the 3rd minute. Conall McCaul got Louth's opening scores (2 pts), but were trailing Meath by 8 pts at the 9th minute. Louth at this stage were creating chances, but had a great attempt at goal saved by the Meath 'keeper, Dean Pluck. Almost straight after, Barry Thompson got Meath's 3rd goal Meath went on to lead at the break by 3-8 to 0-6.

Louth had reduced the deficit with a Luke Matthews goal to trail 3-10 to 1-9 in the second half.. They did have a goal attempt off target soon  after that which could have reduced the arrears further. Louth never gave up, but Meath finished strongly with 2 Niall Finnerty Goals. Despite the misty rain for most of the match, we had great football from both sides.

Meath's Harry Corscadden's was presented with the' Man of the match' award by Martin Blake (Briody Bedding Limited - Sponsor)
