Newtown Blues guaranteed themselves top spot in Division 1 with two games to play after defeating St Patricks by 0-16 to 1-8 at Newfoundwell on Friday night.

Colm Judge and Ross Nally were in fine form for the winners in the first half but points from Danny O'Connor, Evan White and Gavin Gregory ensured that the Pats had cut the gap to 0-7 to 0-6 at half time.

O'Connor scored the only goal of the game on 39 minutes to put his side in front but the Blues response was emphatic as they took control and points from Jamie Kelly helped them claim a deserved victory.

Dreadnots moved a point ahead of Mattock Rangers into second place in the Division 1 league following a hard-fought 4-15 to 3-11 victory in Collon on Friday night.

David Reid helped the home side get off to a bright start with the first goal of the game but the Dreadnots hit back with a Liam Shevlin goal before Pepe Smith added a second before the break to see his side lead by 2-7 to 1-7.

Goals from David and Adrian Reid helped keep Mattock in touch as the Dreadnots scored some nice points but the game turned against the hosts when David Reid was sent off. Dreadnots took advantage with goals from Richard Kirwan and Peter Kirwan to seal the win.

Clan na Gael remain in contention for a place in the top four when they came out on top by 2-16 to 2-8 against St Marys in Ardee on Friday.

A goal from Mark Fay had the Ardee men ahead at the end of the first quarter but the Clans hit back with a goal from a Billy Smith penalty and points from Paul Crewe and Conor Noonan to lead by 1-6 to 1-3 at half time.

JJ Quigley had the ball in the net for the Clans seconds after the restart and with Conall McKeever, Robbie Curran and Mark McGeown adding points, their side went 2-12 to 1-3 ahead on 37 minutes. There was no way back for the Marys and Ciaran Keenan's late goal was little more than consolation.

Cooley edged a close encounter at Pairc an Chuinnigh on Friday night by 0-15 to 1-8 to leapfrog St Brides in the Division 1 League table.

The first half was a close affair with the visitors going in at the break two points to the good with the scoreboard reading 0-7 to 0-5.

An Aaron Devin goal helped the Brides get back into contention after the break but scores from Michael Rafferty, Brian White and Emmet Rogan ensured that the Kickhams returned home with a vital win.

A goal from Stephen Fisher at the beginning of the final quarter helped Sean O'Mahonys clinch a 2-4 to 0-9 victory over local rivals Dundalk Gaels at The Ramparts on Friday evening.

The visitors had been leading by 1-2 to 0-4 at half time with the goal coming from Conor Crawley.

The Gaels will be bitterly disappointed with the outcome given that they enjoyed a greater share of possession over the hour. However, despite points from Eanna McArdle, David Maloney and Derek Crilly they were left to rue a series of missed chances as they remain bottom of the table.

Nh Mairtin had to withstand a late revival from Geraldines before recording a 2-15 to 3-10 win at Haggardstown on Friday evening which boosts their hopes of making the play-offs.

Shane Rogers got the home side off to a great start with the first goal of the game but the Mairtins quickly gained control and a goal from JP Rooney helped them lead by 1-10 to 1-4 at the interval.

Conor Whelan added a second goal after the restart as the Mairtins remained in firm control. However, the Gers rallied and struck through Michael Rogers and Conor Rafferty but it proved too late to save the game as the hosts remain in relegation trouble.
