FL1 round-up: Blues maintain three-point lead over Dreadnots and Mattock

Newtown Blues maintained their three-point lead over Dreadnots and Mattock Rangers at the top of Division 1 with a comfortable 1-17 to 0-7 win away to Sean O'Mahonys on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors were rarely troubled over the hour as a goal from Conor Moore saw them lead by 1-11 to 0-6 at half time.

Stephen Kilcoyne led the fight for the O'Mahonys with four points, but the Drogheda men cruised home with Ross Nally bringing his tally to eight points by the time the final whistle sounded while Ciaran Downey and Jamie Kelly also scored.

Mattock Rangers remain in second place in the table after a late David Reid goal helped seal a 3-12 to 1-13 win at home to Clan na Gael.

First half goals from Aaron O'Brien and Brendan Leacy had the Collon side on top, but the Clans kept themselves in touch thanks to a JJ Quigley goal.

The result remained in doubt in the second half as Robbie Curran and Mark McGeown added points. However, Reid made sure his side came out on top when his goal brought his personal tally to 1-7.

Dreadnots kept pressure on the Blues ahead of their clash next Saturday evening in Drogheda with a convincing 0-20 to 0-13 win over the Dundalk Gaels in Clogherhead on Sunday.

James Califf brought his shooting boots for a first half display which saw him score six points, along with efforts from Pepe Smith, Cathal Lynch, Carl Monaghan and Anthony Williams to see the Dreadnots lead by 0-11 to 0-6 at half time.

Pepe Smith was the star of the second half with four points while Peter Kirwan and Cathal Lynch were also on target to secure victory. Eanna McArdle finished with nine points for the Gaels while Emmet Masterson scored three.

St Brides registered their second win in the league with this hard-earned 0-10 to 0-7 victory in Monasterboice on Sunday afternoon.

In a close first half points from goalkeeper Conaill Devin helped St Brides lead by 0-5 to 0-4 at half time, with Sam Mulroy on target for the hosts.

The second half was also closely contested but the Brides held out with the help of points from Sean Marry and Paddy Reilly, with John Clutterbuck among those replying for the Jocks.

A blistering start to the game helped St Marys record a 3-12 to 1-12 over Cooley Kickhams at Fr McEvoy Park.

Goals from Paudy Clarke and Jamie Rooney had the visitors 2-4 to 0-1 ahead after ten minutes. However, Cooley rallied with scores from Emmet Rogan and Michael Rafferty to cut the gap to 2-7 to 0-7 at half time.

Conor Keenan struck a third goal for the Marys early in the second half to secure the victory before Peter Thornton replied with a consolation goal for Cooley.

St Patricks secured an important victory as they moved away from the bottom end of the table with a 1-15 to 0-6 at home to Geraldines.

The Pats didn't get off the mark until the 19 th minute when Danny O'Connor hit the target but soon after a goal from Cathal Grogan helped open up a 1-4 to 0-1 lead at the break.

The Gers were unable to respond in the second half and the Pats eased to victory with Sean Connor, Aaron Rogers, Paddy Keenan and Aidan McCann on target.
