FL3 round-up: Young Irelands chalk up fifth consecutive victory

Young Irelands chalked up their fifth consecutive victory in Division 3 when they eased past John Mitchels on a scoreline of 2-13 to 0-4 in Dundalk on Friday night.

The hosts dominated the first half and led by 0-7 to no score at half time with the help of points from Dermot Mone and Aidan Sheeky.

The second half saw the Young Irelands complete the victory with goals from Mone and Dean Maguire, with Diarmuid Durnin and Ben O'Brien among those replying for the Mitchels.

Lannleire's 100% winning run in Division 3 came to an end in Courtbane on Friday night as they lost out to more determined local side Nh Malachi by 0-11 to 0-7.

There was nothing to separate the teams at the end of the first half, after which the sides were level, four points each with both teams guilty of poor finishing.

In the second half the Mals edged ahead with the help of scores from Dylan Rooney and Collie Rooney, and held out for the win despite Lannleire replying through Colin Murphy who finished with six points to his name.

Na Piarsaigh kept pace with the leaders when they held on to defeat Sean McDermotts by 0-13 to 2-6 in Mountrush.

The Dundalk men had the better of the first half exchanges and went in at the break leading by 0-7 to 0-2.

However, the McDermotts hit back in the second half and found the net through Tony Kelly and Emmet Duffy but in an entertaining finale Na Piarsaigh hung on for an important victory.

St Kevins are also in the hunt for Division 3 honours as the scored a 1-19 to 2-7 win over Cuchulainn Gaels in Omeath.

James Clarke struck an early goal for the Kevins but they didn't have it all their own way and Gavin Mullen replied to see the Gaels trailing by just 1-6 to 1-5 at the break.

Points from Patrick Clarke helped the visitors extend their lead in the second half and they went on to record a comfortable win despite Micheal McCabe adding a second goal for the Omeath side.

Westerns enjoyed a comfortable outing in Drogheda when they returned home with a 3-19 to 0-3 win over St Nicholas.

Ciaran Campbell was the top-scorer for the Westerns as he finished with 2-6 while Jack Ogle contributed 1-3 for the side who were leading by 2-7 to no score at half time.

Declan Heeney, Kevin Walsh and Eddie Carr kicked the Nicks points in the second half.

In the remaining game in the league, Wolfe Tones continued their good run of form as they defeated Dowdallshill at home by 2-13 to 1-9.

Wolfe Tones picked up their second win of the Division 3 campaign when they defeated Dowdallshill at home on Friday night.

The Drogheda men were leading by 1-6 to 0-6 at half time thanks to a Gideon Lugoye goal but a three-pointer from Luke O'Brien kept the Dundalk men in touch after the break.

However, the Tones wrapped up the victory with a late goal from Patrick Fanning.
