DkIT Launch 2017/18 GAA Scholarship Programme

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) recently launched the 2017/18 GAA Scholarship Programme. The programme which is now in its 4th year is co-funded by DkIT, Louth GAA, Dundalk Credit Union and Matthews Coaches.

This year's recipients include Louth senior footballers Ross Nally and Sam Mulroy, Louth minor captain Eoghan Callaghan, up and coming Monaghan player James Wilson and Longford senior footballer David McGivney. New Ladies GAA Scholars include Emma White (Meath) and Colleen McKenna (Armagh) They join current DkIT GAA scholars such as Gerard McSorely, Tadgh Mc Eneaney (both Louth), Eunan Walsh (Antrim), Conor Doherty (Donegal) and Niall Kearns (Monaghan) who all played a significant role in DkIT's second Trench Cup victory this year. Following on from the recent success DkIT will now compete in Sigerson Cup for 2018.

In addition to receiving substantial funding towards studies, scholars receive extensive sport welfare support, including an intensive strength and conditioning programme, sports science training, fitness testing, nutrition advice, sports psychology and physiotherapy. Students also receive open access to the Institute's new, state-of-the-art indoor sports facility, DkIT Sport. Teams at DkIT can avail of the indoor training pitch, sessions take place on the strength and conditioning area and scholars can freely use leisure facilities to assist with recovery from training and matches.

Sports and Societies Officer, Derek Crilly who oversees the management of the DkIT Sports Scholarship Programme also said: "DkIT has a strong reputation of sporting excellence and our Sports Scholarship Programme helps us support some of our outstanding sporting students throughout their time at DkIT. This year we were spoiled for choice in finding excellent candidates. Many of our previous scholars have gone on to have successful careers both in their sport and in their professional lives - I have no doubt that this year's intake will do the same"

Further information on Sports Scholarship will be available at the upcoming Open Days at DkIT which will be held on campus on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th November 2017. Prospective students will have the opportunity to meet with scholars and find out more about their experience on the programme and their time at DkIT.
