Dromard club notes

September 18, 2017

County Champions: Pride of place this week goes to the magnificent Dromard ladies team who won the Longford Intermediate Championship Final in Pearse Park on Saturday, beating Ballymahon/Forgney on a scoreline of 3-11 to 2-10. Congratulations to the panel, their captain Doireann Mimnagh and the management team of Elaine Sheridan and Francis Murphy. Well done to Rebecca Maguire who won the player of the match award. Thanks also to senior player Peter Reynolds and senior team trainer Aidan McCarron for their help with the team during the year. A standout aspect of the game was the performance of the younger players on the Dromard team who played with assurance and skill. With continued dedication, these players have the ability to enjoy more success in the years ahead and are a great example to the Club. Congratulations to all involved.

Division 1 League: Our senior team lost out narrowly to Colmcille by a single point on a scoreline of 1-14 to 1-13 in a closely contested game on Saturday evening. The result means that we now face a must-win game against Mostrim in the final league fixture of the year. This game is currently scheduled for Saturday week (30th September) at 5pm in Devine Park, Edgeworthstown

Referee Recruitment: Message from Longford GAA: Refereeing is open to men and women from the age of 18 upwards. It is something that brings great satisfaction and also allows referees to progress up the ranks to whatever level their dedication takes them. At the moment, there are wonderful opportunities for young referees to climb the ranks within Longford and indeed in the Leinster ranks also. Refereeing is enjoyable and helps enhance your skills set. If you decide to explore the idea feel free to contact Referees Administrator Joe O'Brien [email protected] or phone 086 2460840.

Dromard Ladies Club Notes

Intermediate Final: A detailed report of this final appears elsewhere in the paper, so it only remains to thank the management and their backroom staff for a job well done. Special thanks to the management team of Elaine Sheridan and Francis Murphy. Also a huge thank you to all the underage panels and their parents plus all our supporters who came from near and far. An absolute huge turnout to shout us on and encourage us when things could so easily have gone against us. When we lost 2 key defenders, Laura McManus and Laura Bleakley to injury early in the match things could well have gone against us and we all watched with some anxiety as they were replaced with 2 15 year olds, Karen McLoughlin and Shauna Hagan who, along with Sarah Murphy, left three 15 year olds on the pitch. However, with the help and encouragement of their older teammates round them they were never to put a foot wrong and got us over the line with a bit to spare. Fair play to Ballymahon/Forgney who played their part in an excellent contest and we are sure their day will come. Our thanks to Eamon Gray and all his staff at the Breffni Arms Hotel who looked after us royally at the after match dinner and thank to Bríd Mimnagh for sponsoring the post-match meal for the players. Once again thank you to all of you that turned out and gave us the belief we could do it. We hope we repaid your faith in us.

U/14 Summer League Final: At time of going to press no date or venue has yet been set, but the girls are training hard to give themselves the best chance when all is decided. We will keep you all informed.

Clothes Collection: Just 2 days remain, today Wednesday and Thursday to bag up your unwanted items of clothing and leave into the Clubhouse, Moyne Stores or our Chairpersons house as the van will be collecting early Friday morning.

Church Gate Collection: Our thanks to everybody who supported Dromard Ladies Club annual church gate collection last weekend. You can be sure the money will be used wisely as we seek to provide a first class club for all Dromard Ladies.

Thank You: Hats off to Kathleen Brady seen here at an u/14 training session last weekend. The U14 girls are all sporting the bobble hats that Kathleen hand knitted for every underage member of Dromard Ladies Club. We would like to sincerely thank Kathleen for this wonderful present to all our young players.
