Dromard club notes

August 21, 2017

Senior Championship Quarter Final: The main event this week is the quarter final of the senior championship with Dromard taking on Clonguish on Sunday (27th August). Throw in at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park is at 6:30. After managing to claim a quarter final spot in a very difficult group, Dromard will be hoping to build on their recent good performances, but face a tough task against Clonguish. We urge all supporters to come out on Sunday evening and to get behind the team as they aim for a spot in the last four. Best of luck to the panel and management team.

New Arrival: Congrats to Nuala McLoughlin, Corrick, and Eamonn Sweeney on the recent birth of a baby boy called Lochlainn. Nuala gave the Club tremendous service for many years, particularly on the Weekly Club Lotto, and continues to support fundraising for the Club.

Engagements: The Club sends its best wishes to senior player Gavin McNerney (currently recovering from a knee injury) and Brenda Stenson on their engagement. Congratulations also to former Dromard player and dedicated supporter Damien Donohoe, Annagh, on his engagement to Stephanie Whytcross, Melbourne, Australia. We hope Stephanie and Damien enjoyed their recent visit home. We wish both couples all the best in the years ahead.

St Francis/Dromard Minor Club Notes:

Dromard Under 10 National Respect Exhibition Go Games Blitz: St. Francis Dromard hosted their final U10 Go Games Blitz of the year on a dry Wednesday evening (16th of August) in Páirc na nGael. The clubs involved were St. Francis Dromard, Clonguish, Colmcille and Killoe. There was a great turnout from all clubs with each club fielding 2 teams apiece, with Dromard leading the way with 21 kids taking to the field. Both teams got games against Clonguish, Colmcille and Killoe teams and played some excellent football and were competitive in all games. Team 1 consisted of: Cormac Mulligan, Emily O'Reilly, Darragh Grimes, Charlie Reilly, Ryan Kiernan, Oisin Conboy, Sean Waters, Conor Reilly, Adam O Reilly, Evan McNerney. Team 2 Consisted of: Donnacha Reynolds, Dylan Macken, James Cosgrove, Padraig Mulligan, Sean McAvennia, Codie Grimes Kelly, Ryan McCabe, John Reilly, Joshua McLoughlin, Jake Carragher, Joe Kiernan. A big well done to all the players and mentors involved with special thanks to the parents who helped out on the evening. The Dromard players who lined out are pictured below.

Congratulations: The Minor club would like to congratulate our Chairman Gavin McNerney and Brenda Stenson on their recent engagement. We wish them both all the happiness and good health for the future.

Church Gate Collection: The minor club executive would like to thank everybody who supported our annual collection. Without your generosity and support it would be impossible to equip all our teams in the minor club.

Training: Our u6, u8 and u10 training will continue this Saturday morning on the 3G pitch at 9.30am. We are always looking to recruit new players to play for St. Francis, if you have a child (boys & girls) that wants to play Gaelic football during the summer holidays bring them down to join our great club. Every newly registered player will receive a new boot bag. All children will be trained in the basic skills of Gaelic football in a safe, friendly and fun environment. We pride ourselves on being a fully inclusive club, no child will be turned away and all children both boys and girls will get a chance to play.

Under 12 team: Our under 12 team played their third game in the league against Wolfe Tones in Devine park last Thursday evening. This young team are playing some tremendous football in the league so far, playing some wonderful fast flowing football. We had built up an unassailable lead by halftime which meant the St Francis management team could give the younger lads on the panel some much needed game time, which would benefit this squad for the later stages of the league. We now remain unbeaten in the league with 3 wins from 3 games.

Dromard Ladies Club Notes

Fixtures and Results: In the U14 summer league the girls beat Young Grattans on Thursday last. The U16 summer league game was cancelled due to a bereavement in Edgworthstown. Due to being unable to field a team with too many girls away on holiday, the U16 Summer League Final is to be put back and Imelda is trying to fix a suitable date with Rathcline. As soon as we know what is happening we will inform all. The U14 Summer League Final, if we are involved in it (see match report below) should go ahead on 31st August, venue TBC.

Reports: Just the one report this week, namely our u14 fixture at home to Grattans. Our visitors were quick out of the blocks, firing over 4 points and hitting the woodwork twice before we stirred from our slumbers. We then ran in 3 goals followed by 2 points, courtesy of Orfhlaith Mulligan, Leah Duffy and Orfhlaith Magauren, before Grattans finished the half with a goal and a point of their own, to leave it nicely balanced at 3-2 to 1-5. The second half saw the teams trade points, with Dromard just edging it to leave the final score Dromard 5-9 Grattans 3-10. This result has left a 3 way tie for 2 final places between these 2 teams and Mullinalaghta, and we all wait with bated breath for the maths calculations to see who will contest the final. Whichever 2 teams eventually contest the Final the neutral is in for a cracking match as all three teams are evenly matched and it will all be down to who has the edge on the day. The final is fixed for August 31st at a ground to be advised.

Condolences: To Tony Gaffney and his family on the passing of his wife's mother. All our girls would know Tony as he has refereed all our age groups at some time, so it was only fitting that we were able to call off our U16 Summer League match with Mostrim as a mark of respect.

Sponsorship: Our thanks go to Raymond Taafe and Pauric Sheridan for the donation of O'Neill's footballs to our Ladies Club to replace our aging stock and the odd lost ball over the course of the season. It is much appreciated Lads.

Thank You: A huge thank you to Kathleen Brady for hand knitting a woollen bobble hat in Dromard's Blue and Gold colours for every underage player in our club. It would be a labour of love, Kathleen, to knit one for a daughter or granddaughter but to knit no fewer than 50 so that every girl can have one really goes beyond the call of duty. It means so much that you went to all that effort just for us, and we cannot thank you enough. I am sure the girls will wear them to matches and training with great pride, and they are sure to become the must have Ladies fashion accessory in the parish of Dromard.

Birthdays: Just one this week, namely Rhiannagh Lennon who will be 13 this week. Happy Birthday from all your teammates.
