Dromard club notes

August 14, 2017

Senior Football Championship Round 3: Dromard 1-13 Longford Slashers 2-08. Congratulations to our senior panel and management who delivered a vital win in the final game of the group stages of the championship, thereby securing a place for Dromard in the last eight. Following narrow defeats to Killoe and Mullinalaghta in the previous rounds, it was a strong first-half performance which provided the platform for this much-needed win. Dromard started the game well with points from Francis McGee (from play and a 45) and Peter Reynolds, who cut in from the wing to kick a great point. After excellent fielding by Bernard Sheridan, Ross McNerney managed to release the ball under pressure to Cian Mimnagh who finished to the net to give Dromard the advantage with 20 minutes played. A great point on the run from centre half back Peter Masterson and another good score by Ross McNerney saw Dromard go into the dressing room at half time leading by seven points, 1-08 to 0-4. Dromard were put to the pin of their collar in the second half as Longford Slashers staged a strong comeback which eventually saw the Dromard lead cut to two points. There could have been further trouble for Dromard without some great saves on the goal line by Sean McNerney and solid defending by David Pettit and Paul McGee. However, despite the pressure Dromard managed to maintain their advantage over their opponents on the scoreboard with Francis McGee, Ronan McEntire and Diarmuid Masterson - who surged forward to kick two excellent late points - getting the important scores to ensure Dromard's progression to the quarter finals. Team: Sean McNerney; Paul McGee, Niall Vance, David Pettit; Peter Reynolds, Peter Masterson, John Sheridan; Diarmuid Masterson, Bernard Sheridan; James Mimnagh, Ronan McEntire, Ross McNerney; James Martin, Cian Mimnagh, Francis McGee. Subs:  Emmet Masterson, Kevin Kane.

Senior Championship Quarter Final: In the draw which took place on Sunday evening, Dromard were drawn to play Clonguish. The game is currently fixed for Sunday 27th August at 6:30pm in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.

Dromard Ladies Club Notes

Fixtures and Results: Just two results this week, and both away to our near neighbours Colmcille. First up were our U/16 Panel on Tuesday followed by the U/14 Panel on Thursday. Both came back down with the points. Next week sees the last of the fixtures for our U/14 Panel when they entertain Grattans on Thurs 17th throw in 6 45pm.

Reports: U/16s match against Colmcille was a fairly tight affair with our hosts holding a one point lead at halfway 1-5 to2-1. However, after regrouping we limited the opposition to 3 points while scoring a goal and 6 points to run out winners on a score of 1-8 to 3-7. The U/14 match followed a similar pattern with nothing to separate the sides at halftime before we managed to push on in the second period to win on a score of 1-4 to 3-6.

Birthday Greetings: To Kathy Farrell from our U/16 Panel, Leah Duffy from our U/14's and Hannah O'Reilly who will be turning 7yrs old. If you enjoy your respective days as much as you do your football, a good time is guaranteed!
