Dromard Club Notes for issue dated Friday 28th of July 2017

Senior Championship Round 1: Dromard 2-14 Killoe 2-19: Our senior team was defeated by Killoe in a high scoring game played in fine conditions in Allen Park on Sunday last. A slow start by Dromard saw Killoe score three points without reply in the opening five minutes and Killoe then added a goal with twenty minutes gone. Dromard gradually came more into the game and picked off some good points by Ross McNerney, Francis McGee (including a great free from close to the sideline), Cian Mimnagh and Ronan McEntire to reduce the arrears. Dromard then received a great boost two minutes before half time when Ross McNerney gathered a deflected James Martin shot and finished well to the Killoe net to leave Dromard trailing by just three points at half time, 1-8 to 1-5. After Dromard missed a goal chance just after half time, Killoe took control for a ten-minute period which yielded a second goal and further points to leave Dromard facing uphill task for the remainder of the game. However, credit to the team, the Dromard players continued to battle and put together some good attacking moves with limited possession. Their persistence was rewarded when Diarmuid Masterson scored a goal following a well-worked passing move down the centre of the field. Bernard Sheridan came close with another goal opportunity following a great angled pass into the square from Francis McGee, but his fisted effort narrowly went over the bar for a point. Although Dromard continued to press until the final whistle for further scores, Killoe held out for a deserved win in an entertaining contest.  Team: Sean McNerney, Paul McGee, Niall Vance, James Mimnagh, John Sheridan, Peter Masterson, Peter Reynolds, Diarmuid Masterson, Bernard Sheridan, Emmet Masterson, Ronan McEntire, Ross McNerney, James Martin, Cian Mimnagh, Francis McGee. Subs: David Pettit, Kevin Kane, Kevin Donohoe, Pauric McNerney.

Senior Championship Round 2: Our senior team faces another big challenge this weekend when we take on county champions Mullinalaghta in Round 2 of the championship on Saturday evening (29th July). Throw in is at 7:00pm in McGee Park, Colmclle. Best of luck to the panel and management. All supporters as asked to attend for this important game.

Dromard Ladies Club Notes

Results: A busy week for fixtures with panels out every evening except Tuesday. On Monday our u/12's togged out against Clonguish in the summer league, and against a very strong side, unbeaten all summer, We took our expected beating and vowed to move on to the last match v Carickedmond. This took place on the Wednesday, and afterwards the home side invited us to stay for refreshments as a way of rounding off  the season, for which the girls were most grateful. As to the game itself, it was played in great spirit between two very evenly matched teams, with ourselves just shading it on a scoreline of 3-1 to 4-5.T eam and scorers: Louise Tierney, Niamh Corrigan. Kate O'Connor, Naoise Hourican, Lauren Conboy(1-3), Kate McEntire (2-2), Caoimhe Kearney, Grace Tierney, Erin Kearney, Tamara Cosgrove(1-0). That concludes the season for this group of girls(except for those 10 and under who still have Saturday morning blitzes to look forward to) and with 3 wins and 4 defeats in summer league, and 3 wins and 3 defeats in their A Championship, this very young side can look forward to next year with every confidence. Thursday saw the start of the u/14 Summer League and we started in good style with a comprehensive victory against Ballymore.Team: Cathy Conefrey, Ciara Maguire, Orfhlaith Mulligan, Nicole Conboy, Aisling Farrell, Avril Cosgrove, Orfhlaith Magauren, Rhiannagh Lennon, Brianna Murphy, Siobhan Murphy, Alyssa Mc Erlean, Louise Tierney, Tamara Cosgrove, Kate O'Connor, Kate McEntire and Naoise Hourican. Friday saw the much anticipated Senior Championship match at home to Ballymahon/Forgney, and goals proved to be decisive as we ran out winners by 4-12 to 1-10. This seals a place for this panel in the Intermediate Championship Final in September. This is the first time a Dromard side has achieved this and the focus is now on bringing the silverware home. The panel can be very proud of their season, and our parish are thankful for all the efforts put in by them and their management team of Elaine Sheridan and Francis Murphy. Saturday then swung from the oldest members to the youngest, when our u/10s attended a blitz organised very professionally by Killoe. Our thanks again go to Alice and the Killashee girls for allowing us to join forces with them once again to field, as holidays and other commitments keep us low in numbers. Well done to Emer Brady, Niamh Corrigan, Tara Gray, Grace Tierney and Leah Tuite who togged out. Hope you all enjoyed the day.

Fixtures: Thursday 27th u/14 S/League Home to Mullinalaghta 6.45pm. Saturday 29th u/10 Blitz in Grattans. Tues Aug 1st u/16 S/League Home to Mullinalaghta 6.45pm.

Birthdays: Only one to celebrate this week - former senior stalwart and captain Laura Martin. Nice that we still hear your vocal encouragement from the sideline!
