Laois manager Peter Creedon believes a win against Longford on Sunday could be the catalyst to kick start their year.

Hampered by injuries during the NFL campaign, Laois endured relegation from Division Three, but since then they have got the majority of their players back fully fit.

They go into Sunday's game against Longford at O'Moore Park as slight favourites and Creedon feels that a win would be massive for his players.

"We really have to produce a performance against Longford," Creedon told the Longford Leader. "If you win that game, you don't know where it will take you. Confidence is a massive factor.

"It is a complete 50-50 game. Longford have done very well in the championship in recent years. They recovered well from losing to Offaly in Leinster last year to score a surprise win over Down in Newry and caused a shock to beat Monaghan in Clones.

"Their great run in the All-Ireland qualifiers ended at home against Cork but they pushed them all the way.

"If we don't play to our true potential against Longford on Sunday we won't do well, it's as simple as that, but if we do succeed in getting it right then we will be well there in the quest for victory."
