Dromard club notes

May 15, 2017

Leinster Senior Championship: Best of luck to the Longford senior footballers in the first round of the Leinster championship against Laois on Sunday next. In particular, good luck to the Dromard players on the panel, Diarmuid Masterson, Ronan McEntire and Paul McGee and to Enda Macken, Alan McLoughlin and Danny O'Toole who are part of the Longford backroom team. Hopefully all involved will be rewarded for their hard work and dedication to the county team all year.

Leinster Minor Championship: Best wishes to the Longford minor panel and management and especially to Dromard's Joseph Hagan who take on Dublin in Parnell Park on Saturday.

Club Meeting: The May monthly meeting will take place in the Clubhouse on Monday next 22 May at 9pm. The meeting will be preceded by the Monthly Members Draw.

Wedding bells: Congratulations to our Senior Team trainer Aidan McCarron on his Marriage to Annette on Friday last. May they have a long and healthy life together.

Bertie Allen Cup: Dromard 1-10 Killoe 1-10. Missing a number of players through injury and unavailability, Dromard put in a battling performance to earn a draw with Killoe on Saturday evening last in Pairc na nGael. Persistent rain throughout made for challenging ball handling conditions but both teams managed to serve up an entertaining game. Dromard were trailing by one point five minutes before half time when James Martin scored an excellent goal. Unfortunately this score was cancelled out almost immediately as, from the next kick out, Killoe broke down the field to score a goal of their own. At half time, Dromard trailed by 3 points, 1-8 to 1-5. In a determined second half display, Dromard managed to claw back the deficit and claim a well-deserved draw with James Martin adding further to his tally with well-taken points. This result secured a semi-final place for Dromard in this competition. Well done to the players and management. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Gavin McNerney who sustained an injury in the first half. Team: Gavin McNerney, David Pettit, Padraig McNerney, Kevin Kane, Peter Reynolds, John Sheridan, Oisin Hourican, Bernard Sheridan, Noel Reynolds, Conor Duffy, Cian Mimnagh, Bryan McCormack, James Martin, Peter Mimnagh, Niall McManus. Subs: Sean McNerney, Kevin Donohoe, Michael Reynolds.

Football Cup 3: Our second team was defeated by a strong Abbeylara side in Pairc na nGael on Sunday. The sides were evenly matched in the first quarter hour with Abbeylara opening up a narrow 5 points to 3 lead. However, an Abbeylara goal five minutes before the half-time whistle proved to be a decisive score and although Dromard worked hard throughout, they were unable to match their Abbeylara opponents on this occasion. Dromard did manage to close the gap to four points with ten minutes remaining when Niall McManus scored from a penalty after Keith Masterson had been fouled in the square. However, Abbeylara finished the stronger to run out deserving winners. Team: Sean McNerney, James Conefrey, Kevin Murtagh, Oisin Hourican, Ronan Smith, Michael Reynolds, Noel Reynolds, Dillon McCormack, Thomas Conefrey, Martin McStay, Liam Doherty, Niall McManus, Keith Masterson. Subs: Brendan McLoughlin, Mark Murtagh, Danny Petit.

Fixtures: Dromard are due to play Ardagh/Moydow in the next round of the Cup 3 competition on Saturday evening next at 7:30pm in Pairc na nGael.
