Sympathy: Dromard GAA offers its sympathy to the Kelly and Hagan Families on the recent sad passing of Roseanne Kelly (nee Hagan) Corfree, Lough Gowna. The Club sends its condolences to Michael Hagan and the extended Hagan and Kelly Families. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam.

Bertie Allen Cup, round 1: Dromard 1-13 Abbeylara 1-09: The Dromard senior panel got their 2017 season underway with a good win over Abbeylara on Sunday last in Páirc na n- Gael. Dromard led by 1-6 to 0-5 at half time and withstood a strong second half performance from Abbeylara to emerge with the win. Dromard lined out as follows: Gavin McNerney, Oisin Hourican, David Petit, Conor Duffy, Michael Reilly, Padraic Martin, Peter Reynolds, James Mimnagh, John Sherdian, Bernard Sherdian, Cian Mimnagh, Emmet Masterson, Francis McGee. Peter Mimnagh, Niall Mc Manus. Subs: Kevin Kane, Martin McStay and Niall Vance.

Fixtures: Dromard is scheduled to play Ballymahon in Round 2 of the Bertie Allen Cup on Saturday evening next (1st April) in Leo Casey Park at 6pm.

National Football League: Commiserations to the Longford senior footballers on their narrow defeat to Laois on Saturday. Survival in Division 3 now depends on a win over Antrim on Sunday next in Corrigan Park, Belfast. Best of luck to Diarmuid, Ronan and Paul and to all involved in this vital game.

Leinster U21 Championship: Hard luck to the Longford U21 footballers who were defeated by Dublin in the semi final. The team put in a gallant display and can take heart from solid Hastings Cup and Leinster Championship displays. Well done Dromard's to Damien Sheridan and to manager Frank McNamee and the rest of the backroom team for their work all year.

 

Suicide Awareness: The following Suicide Behaviour Awareness and Training Programmes will bedelivered in Longford in April. ASIST will take place on April 5th and 6th at EDI Centre, Mastertech Business Park, Longford. SafeTALK will be held on April 27th at the same venue. A.S.I.S.T. (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) is a two-day intensive and interactive workshop designed to provide participants with skills that will enable them to recognise the immediate risk of suicide and provide safety, help and support to those at risk. SafeTALK is a 3½ hourr 'suicide alertness' programme that prepares participants to identify and engage with persons who may be having thoughts of suicide.  Participants also learn how to provide practical help by using the steps of TALK (Tell, Ask, Listen and Keepsafe) and gain information on the supports and resources available locally, regionally and nationally. Please note that individual SafeTALK workshops can also be delivered upon request to groups with a minimum of 15 participants. An Introduction to Youth Mental Health: This new workshop on Youth Mental Health is being delivered in collaboration with Jigsaw and HSE Health Promotion and Improvement for people who work or volunteer with Young People aged between 12-25yrs old in County Longford.  This training will be held in the EDI Centre, Longford, on Thursday 22nd June 2017.  Registration is essential. To register and for more information, please contact  Anthony O'Prey, Health Promotion Officer on 087 1785685 or by email at [email protected]

Dromard Ladies Club Notes                      

Fixtures and Results: Our Senior Team played St Helen's in the Gold Cup on Sunday last and were victorious on a scoreline of 2-9 to 1-7. Next up for this panel is another Gold Cup game away to Killoe on Sun 2nd April throw in at 11.30am. Thurs 30th March sees the start of our U/16 Championship away to Ballymahon/Forgney throw in at 6pm. For those of you going direct please be at Forgney grounds (not Ballymahon) at 5.30pm. For those needing lifts or unsure where ground is please meet at Dromard at 4.30 and we can go in convoy. Monday 3rd April ses the second round of the u/12 Championship when we are at home again toKilloe throw in 6pm.Please be in Dromard by 5.30pm girls.

Match Report: Gold Cup v St.Helen's. Played in perfect conditions between two evenly matched sides, Dromard pointed first. After the visitors scored, Dromard went on to record three unanswered points before St.Helen's netted to level and nosed in front with another point. Dromard then struck 4 points to lead at halfway by 0-8 to 1-2. They extended that lead with a point and a goal, before our visitors hit back with 2 points of their own. Dromard netted again to give themselves breathing space, before St.Helen's scored 3 points in a row to just come up short at the final whistle. Team:  Alannah Reilly, Niamh Cooke, Doireann Mimnagh, Helen Conefrey, Clodagh Duffy, Shauna O'Reilly, Cait Murphy (1-2), Sarah Murphy, Imelda Reynolds (1-1), Sarah Reynolds (0-6), Becky Maguire. Underage Training: Sat 1st April on the astroturf, back at our normal time of 10.30am. This will be followed by Registration in the clubhouse at 11.30am. Remember if girls are not registered they cannot tog out and are not covered by the injury fund, so parents please make every effort to attend. The fees are the same as last year. U/10 E20, U/18 E35 and 18+ E50. We look forward to seeing you all and any new members, from 7yrs upwards to any age, will be made very welcome as we look to expand Dromard Ladies Club. Make your girls part of it.
