Denis Connerton will remain in charge of Longford's senior footballers for a second season.

There were concerns that the Rathcline man was set to walk away from the Midlanders after a dispute over player availability in the build-up to this year's All-Ireland SFC.

However, victories over Down and Monaghan in the qualifiers saw a major turn around this summer for the Leinster side and he was unanimously ratified by the county's clubs on Monday night.

He will be joined by assistant manager Ciaran Fox, selectors Derek Ryan and Enda Macken and Trevor Smullen will be the team's strength and conditioning coach.

Last January saw Longford pull off a shock six-point win over Dublin in the semi-final of the O'Byrne Cup - a feat Connerton is proud of.

"It was a great achievement for us," Connerton said in today's Irish Daily Star. "Were we proud of what we did? Absolutely. I wish it would happen more often."
