Dromard Ladies Club Notes

Fixtures and Results: Our u12 girls played Carrickedmond on Monday last in the u12 A Summer League Final in Killoe. This team have made great strides this year, after winning the u12B Championship back in May they were placed in the A Summer League and after winning all games, except against Carrickedmond, they reached the final. It was a cracker of a game with end to end football. Midfielder Orlaith Magauran was the first Dromard girl to get on the score sheet with a goal swiftly followed by a point from play but Carrickedmond responded well with a brace of points. It would be a ding-dong battle for the rest of the first half with Dromard raising the white flag another 5 times through Brianna Murphy, Elena O'Reilly and Kate McEntire. Carrickedmond kept chipping away with points and at half time it was the goal that separated us; Dromard 1-06 Carrickedmond 0-6 points. The second half was also a tight affair with both teams registering 5 points apiece but once again Dromard found the net through Brianna Murphy with 5 minutes remaining to put some distance between the teams. Indeed we were unlucky not to find the net another 2 times in the second half as Leah Duffy had two goal chances saved at close range by the hardworking Carrickedmond keeper. The girls worked tirelessly and the backs put in a great effort to keep the lively Carrickedmond forwards out. Louise Tierney pulled off some great saves and always found a Dromard player with her long accurate kickouts. The midfield pairing of Avril Cosgrove and Orlaith Magauran put in a tough shift and they were well assisted by Brianna Murphy and Kate McEntire around the centre of the field. Substitute Aisling Farrell made some great tackles to turn the ball over in our own half near the end of the game.

This group of girls have made us very proud in the club this year. Not only for winning but for their participation in training every week and their fantastic attitude and enthusiasm. This brings to 3 the titles won by this bunch of girls this year; the u12 B Championship, u12 Community Games Longford Champions and the u12A Summer League Champions. Thanks to all the parents and supporters that came out and thanks to the committee who organised the food and refreshments back at the Latin School after the game.

Team: Louise Tierney, Nicole Conboy, Tamara Cosgrove, Kate O'Connor, Brianna Murphy (1-6), Rhiannagh Lennon, Orla Magauren (1-1), Avril Cosgrove, Aisling Farrell, Kate McEntire (0-2), Elena O'Reilly (0-1), Leah Duffy (c), Siobhan Murphy (0-1), Lauren Conboy, Paige McLoughlin, Naoise Hourican, Alyssa McErlean, Caoimhe Kearney, Ellie Reynolds and Melanie Reilly. Thanks to the management team of Laura Martin and Helen Conefrey who are well assisted by Dominic Tierney.

There are just 2 fixtures this week. Firstly on Sat 27th at 11am in Killoe there is an U/10 Blitz for our youngest members. Can parents please have their girls ready for 10:30am outside the Killoe grounds, so that we can register by 10.45am. The second fixture of the weekend is for our Minor Panel amalgamated with Colmcille again, just as last year. These girls have been training together throughout August under the watchful eye of Mairead, Niamh and Nadine along with Shay and Meadbh from Colmcille. Hopefully now ready to start their campaign on Sun 28th Aug in the Colmcille grounds at 11.30am versus Longford Slashers.

Underage Training: This is now suspended on Saturday mornings to allow our Senior Panel, who take this training, to focus on their Junior Championship Final against Mullinalaghta. U/10 Blitzes go ahead as usual on Saturdays.

Junior Championship Final: This will be held in Pearse Park on Sat 10th Sep as part of a double header with the Senior Championship Final. Do please put this date in your diaries and be sure to put out your colours and signs of support as the day approaches. This Panel has progressed well this season under new management duo of Sean McNerney and Elaine Sheridan and their backroom staff.

Clothes Collection: We are holding a Clothes collection to raise funds for Dromard Ladies. Any unwanted items can be left into the clubhouse or to Moyne Stores (during opening hours) or given to any committee member by Thursday Aug 25th.

Ballinamuck Fair Day: Despite a poor day weather wise it did not seem to dampen people's spirits and they turned out in great numbers to support the event, which was once again superbly organised to the very last detail by the Fair Committee. Well done to our Senior Panel for organising and running the stall on the day.

Birthdays: Two Birthdays to celebrate this week, and both from our victorious u/12 Panel. Happy Birthday Rhiannagh Lennon and Melanie Reilly.

Condolences:: To the Mulligan Family, Berinagh, especially our own Alannah (u/16) and her sister Orfhlaith (u/14) on the passing of their Grandmother Eileen Mulligan. Our sympathies are with Padraic and Catriona and the wider Mulligan family.

Congratulations: To Margaret Martin on winning the Dromard Lotto this week.Another woman who provides Dromard and Longford with Paddy's help of course.
