Dromard Club Notes

June 27, 2016

Golden Jubilee Celebration: Dromard GAA would like to extend its congratulations to Fr. Frank Gray on reaching the Golden Jubilee of his ordination to the priesthood. Fr. Frank is a brother of Matt Gray, Edenmore. A celebration to mark this milestone was held recently in Fr. Gray's parish of Ballymachugh with Bishop Francis Duffy in attendance. The Club wishes Fr Frank many more years of good health.

All Ireland Qualifiers: Congratulations to the Longford senior footballers and to Dromard's Diarmuid Masterson and Paul McGee on their fine win over Down in Newry on Saturday afternoon last. Diarmuid took up a number of different positions throughout the game in defence, midfield and attack and also scored three points from play. Paul played a key role as a second-half substitute and helped to curb the threat of dangerous Down forward Donal O'Hare. Longford now face a difficult away fixture on Saturday week (9th July) against the loser of the Donegal and Monaghan Ulster semi-final replay.

Ladies Championship: Congratulations to the Dromard senior Ladies and their management team of Elaine Sheridan and Seán McNerney on their victory over Killashee in the first round of the Junior Championship on Friday evening last.

Dromard Ladies Club Notes

Results and Fixtures: As was expected our u/14 panel went down to a heavy defeat in their semi-final against Clonguish on Tuesday. Having been placed in the A championship with only a panel of 7 girls under 14 we always had to make the best of a bad job. The response of our U/12 panel who stepped up to the plate to ensure that we could fulfil our fixtures in this competition was tremendous and to have qualified for the semi-finals against the odds shows their commitment to the cause. Having been soundly beaten in the league match with Clonguish two weeks previously you could understand if some girls took the chance to cry off, however that's not the Dromard way and with 2 girls from the actual u/14 panel also absent through holiday and illness the job was not getting easier. So fair play to the following girls that took the fight to Clonguish : Sarah Murphy,Karen McLoughlin,Lauren Holloway,Cathy Conefrey,Orflaith Mulligan,Nicole Conboy,Aisling Farrell,Avril Cosgrove,Ellie Reynolds,Orla Magauren,Leah Duffy,Rhiannagh Lennon,Brianna Murphy,Siobhan Murphy, and Louise Tierney. With Cathy Conefrey scoring our only points of the night when she netted late in the second half, all that remained was to wish Clonguish well for the following weekend when they travel to Cork for the Feile. It will be a surprise if they don't do well as they have a very strong and well drilled team. This panel now look forward to the u/14 Summer League starting.

Any gloom in the parish was soon lifted on Friday night when our Senior Panel took to the field in the first round of the Junior Championship. After Killashee were quick out of the blocks pointing twice in the first minute,we gradually got ourselves back in the match and established a healthy lead by halftime and we went on to build on this in the second period winning by 5 - 13  to  2 - 6 Team :- Helen Conefrey,Laura Martin,Michelle Kilkenny,Michelle McManus,Laura McManus,Mairead Reynolds,Niamh Cooke,Doireann Mimnagh,Donna Masterson,Chloe Connell,Rebecca Maguire,Laura Bleakley,Shauna O,Reilly,Roisin Kiernan,Cait Murphy,Amy McLoughlin,Aine Smith,Aoife Grimes and Andrea Farrell.

From our eldest to our youngest panel next. We would like to say a big thank you to Marie Leen and all her helpers at Grattans for hosting the u/10 blitz on Saturday last. It was efficiently run out on the field and we were more than looked after with drinks, fruit, sandwiches and cakes (especially the cakes) in the clubhouse afterwards. So many thanks from the following Dromard girls who had a lovely time: Tara Gray, Eleanor and Emily O'Reilly, Grace Tierney, Emer Brady, Melanie and Mariah Reilly, Meadhbh Carberry, Caoimhe Kearney, Elena O'Reilly, Niamh Corrigan, Lauren Conboy and Naoise Hourican. Also my personal thanks to Louise Tierney, Nicole Conboy and James Brady who warmed up and lined out the teams. Great manager material for the future in ones so young, and of course all the Mammys and Daddys who drove us all to Longford. Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

There is no action this week for u/12's (we have a bye in summer league) u/14's who have a rest now until July 12 when your summer league starts. However some of you may be called on to bolster the u/16's who have three summer league matches this week. Thurs 30th Home to Bally/Forgney 7pm, Sun 3rd Home to Carrickedmond 12.30pm and Tues 5th Away to Killoe 7pm.Mairead will be in touch with you.

Birthday Greetings: This week sees Lauren Conboy reach double figures.Happy Birthday Lauren and we hope you are soon better from your fall.Having successfully avoided any injury at the blitz last Saturday she then managed to damage her arm playing on the swing !!! Also to our Childrens Officer Peggy Kiernan, who our Senior Panel managed to surprise after their match with Killashee,by turning up en masse in Dillons to help her celebrate her certain milestone.
